When my truck is at idle, the battery icon on the dash glows and sometimes stays on solid, but whe
n I rev the engine, it goes out.....while this is happening, the volt gauge in the dash and the digital voltmeter (in the APCM) read normal (14.3). Any ideas?
Is the one from NAPA a new one or a new rebuilt one? I went through 4 from them on a car a few years ago before I got one that would actually work. They were fine at a low RPM but shut off at higher RPMS.
I would still take it to a independent shop that can test them out of the truck to make sure that it is working properly and from what it sounds like it isn't.

I hear what you guys are saying, but its a brand new unit not reman., but "if" its the alt. (again), then why do my volt gauges read normal? At highway speed its putting out 14.3 volts, with lights, heat and stereo on,...... if the alt. is failing, wouldn't this batt. light come on after its just started up, and the gp's are sucking current?
There's a single spade connector with a white wire that plugs into the top of the alternator. Sometimes the wire will get damaged or the spade connector won't maintain a good contact which can trigger the battery light.
Once I was heading out to go hunting and I was 300 miles from home and coasting down hill and my battery light would come on but every thing told me the alt was still charging, so when I got into a town and stopped to get something to eat, I checked the wires going into the top of the alt and made sure they were good and tight with good connection, solved the battery light coming on problem.
