what causes this green and yellow mess? they can be spotless as if new one day and the next thing you know they are covered with the greeish blue corosion. i bought a truck one time that the terminals were covered in Vaseline but never had a corosion problem. any ideas?

Jason,

The terminal corrosion is generally believed to be from battery acid and gases seeping up between the lead stud to plastic case interface. I generally prefer to lay down a very thick blanket layer of dielectric silicone grease around the base of the battery's studs as well as some grease on the stud and inner part of the battery cable terminal. I also coat the connection once the terminal is tightened down with either more dielectric silicone grease or some special aerosol battery terminal protective coating.

Hope it helps,
K.N.
