Corrosion on battery terminals indicate leakage of the battery. Either your overcharging and boiling the batteries, or the batteries themselves are just plain leaky.

I work in high voltage substations, this is something we look for all the time.

Good post and comments folks. My one suggestion is that corrosion might be a result of a bad terminal to clamp connection. Even when the clamp is tight and looks perfect, it is possible for the post and inner clamp surfaces to have a buildup of corrosion you can barely see in the form of a black sheen. One way to tell if there is a layer of corrosion there is to take a multimeter and read the voltage at the post, and then again at the clamp. If the clamp reading while the truck is idling is around 14 volts and the post reading is around 12, the alternator is creating juice but the battery isn't getting the full charge. The end result can be a failed alternator and or a failed battery. A good scraping and cleaning of both posts and clamps makes a huge difference.

I have to agree with Jcart, i use the yellow tops as well, no poblem since they are not lead acid batts. I also smear di-electric grease all over the lugs and terminals just because.
