Your cord might be the problem though, try a new cord or do a patch job for a test.
These cords routinely go bad and short out, happens all the time and you can't see it by looking, cut it off about a foot from the oil filter or less if you can and patch a cord in for the test. "Presto" this fixes about 75% of them.
