blown fuse #17

I keep blowing fuse #17 on the dash fuse block. It occurs when I have started the engine and shift from park into neutral. I figure that it is the electronic transmission. Has any one had this problem??

Re: blown fuse #17

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that fuse is for the speed sensor. If so I'd check their first!

Re: blown fuse #17

when the fuse #17 blows it doesn't effect the speed gauge, the RPM gauge craps out and if you put the tranny back into neutral or park the engine RPM really get after it...and it is not mentioned on the fuse cover description or #17.

Re: blown fuse #17

According to my tech manual, #17 is a 10amp - 'Trans control indicator lamp and switch, brake fluid level switch, warning chime, diesel warning lamps display, fuel water switch, low vacuum warning switch, instrument cluster, switch lamps'

The engine compartment fuse box #17 is 50amp 'Generator charge indicator, instrument cluster ( references fuses 2,3,6,11,17 and maxi fuse 22 ) also, circuit breaker 14.

Re: blown fuse #17

When that was happening to me, I had to pull the steering wheel and disconnect (unplug) the overdrive on off harness. The wires were chaffed thru from the shifter moving up and down. I just recently rewired it. I could not get the wires to go back thru the handle so I wired it and taped it to the handle. (wires on the back, drille hole thru knob, slid wires thru boot, black electrical tape, done)

Re: blown fuse #17

Yep....that was the problem.....The cable that is conected to the overdrive button on the shifter was worn through and shorted down on the
steering column...I started messing with it, and finally let a local shop
have at it. Glad I did .... it was really a tight mess around that steering
wheel. Parts $79 - Labor $90 (1.5 hrs.)...The truck was down for a week, I didn't realize how much I missed driving it. Till I as back on the road going home from the shop with a big smile on my face...
