Exclamation DESPERATE!!! turns over with no start.

It is getting fuel to the fuel filter canister. new batteries, cables, and starter. I stayed up until 3 in the morning swapping out the hpop, cam sensor, and IPR. still no start. i have been refilling the hpop reservoir. every time i do the truck starts and runs rough for ten seconds and dies. I checked my oil level on my dipstick and it rose by the amount of oil i put into the reservoir (one gallon)(also the oil level drops continuously in the oil reservoir) . could the low pressure pump not be supplying my hpop reservoir causing a lack of pressure for the injectors resulting in their inability to fire? also, the truck has 306,000 miles on it

Jack up the rear of the truck, forcing all the oil to the front. This will submerge the pick up tube with oil and seal a cracked tube. Run the truck and see what happens. If thats not the trick, you may need a lpop or the check valve in your front cover has failed.

With that said I am 95% sure you have a bad check valve. What is the HPOP oil level looking like with the truck off? Is the res empty?

just happened to me last weekend, IDM died while I was going down the road. Replaced CPS, checked everything else, swapped IDM and voila, started right up.

Any IDM from 96-03 can be used to test.

Was your crankcase full when you jacked up the truck? This is important, may want to overfill by a quart. If you dont have jacks tall enough, can you put the nose down in a shallow ditch?

the crank case is about two quarts over full and i dont have anything to tow my truck into a shallow ditch. (my bad luck never fails me) IDM sounds pricey... any idea of the cost?

IDM has nothing to do with the hpor depleting.

What were your original issues that made you replace the hpop, cps and ipr?

Have you changed the oil lately, if so, did you check to see if the disk and retainer were in the filter head?

The rough idle is expected with all the air in your hp oil system, maybe some gp issues as well, but still normal given that you just replaced the hpop.

So, just to make sure we got it, the hpor is empty..you fill it...truck starts and runs rough then dies..check hpor and is empty again. Right?

exactly right. I didn't think the idm was the problem i just had it replaced two years ago. the truck died while i was going down the road (i had just got on the pedal) it shuddered, died, rolled to a stop about 20 yards from my road. it would turn over very strong and fast but with no start, or white smoke.

Ok, lets pick up from there...is this when you checked the hpor and seen it was empty? Or was this noticed AFTER the hpop replacement?

Had you changed oil/filter that day?

May have more than one problem...

You may have a problem with the front cover,

You list '96 my, and I believe another member who had the same problem as you describe had found his de-airation valve had backed itself out.

If that happens it will bypass all the lube oil supply back into the pan.

I think the only way to verify is to remove the front cover, and I believe it was determined only 1996 my that had that style front cover.

i noticed the reservoir was empty after replacing the hpop. The oil and filter was changed about three weeks ago. On the issue of the front cover, Where is the cover located so i can check this problem out?

although this terrifies me, I was fearfully expecting it... do you have a diagram of some sort that will aid me in finding the valve?
