Ok, lets pick up from there...is this when you checked the hpor and seen it was empty? Or was this noticed AFTER the hpop replacement?

Had you changed oil/filter that day?

May have more than one problem...
what other problem do you think there might be? I am still learning all of this and appreciate the help.

For your engine to die the way you described sounds like an electrical/sensor issue, in addition to a lpop, cracked oil pu tube or failed valve in front cover.

I think we can prove the lpop by removing the plug on the filter head. Install a cheap pressure gauge and monitor oil pressure at that port. We cant measure lpo at the res because we know it isnt filling. So, fill your res, drain the oil back down to the proper level and try the pressure gauge deal.

Me thinks if you watch the gauge and observe lp oil, dies 10 min later as you describe then check your hpor and is discovered empty, then its not the lpop because we verified pressure elsewhere.

If its not the lpop, a cracked pu tube or check valve are the only other sensable failures, of which both requres engine removal.

there is a pipe plug on the filter base perpendicular to the direction of the oil filter threads.

you do not have to remove the engine to remove/inspect the lube pump for wear.

Looks like yall are guiding him in the right direction. Don't forget that you can just pull the plug on the high pressure oil resivour and see if it is filling too.

i hate to say it, but i had the truck towed to the mechanic. He is going to pinpoint the problem with me and help me get it running again. (I couldn't pass up this learning opportunity) I will keep everyone updated as to what the problem turns out to be. Thank you all for the help. I sure wouldn't have gotten this far without it!!!

the high pressure oil reservoir is not filling. So we need to attach a pressure gauge to the filter base and check the pressure while turning the engine over?

Thats what i would do instead of throwing a lpop at it, they arent cheap..

We need to verify your lpop is good before we go any further.

25-50 psi depending on rpms.

hi pressure oil is controlled by the ipr depending on demand ideally between 450-3000psi.

Even though its a pain one good thing about the HEUI system is that the engine wont run if the low pressure oil pump goes out. At least there's no chance of running the motor with no lube. I know that doesn't help but maybe it will cheer you up a little. :-) Good Luck.
