i just got off work and am about to go check it out right now. i will post an update as soon as i know... if the tube is not cracked where would be the nest logical place to look?
Have you verified the lpop pressure is still not threre. If so, you might check the pressure releaf valve in the oil filter housing. If it were stuck open it would dump the oil back into the pan. With no or low oil pressure.

"five years ago---brother had wayyyy low oil pressure. in winter----!!! i pulled pan and put in new bearings--same---pulled pan and put in new oil pump---same----called guy in marion ia, he said pressure reg valve is stuck--brother pulled it off--sure nuff--stuck--so, i took a screwdriver, and beat back the stakes holding it in----polished it with a scotchbrite, put back--pressure to burn--day later, said i got bearing noise up front, hmmm. said pull intake---he wasnt happy, but i was glad. when pulled valley pan--lifter retainer broke, lifter went 90 deg, and near ground cam and itself to death--soooooooooo, we fixed it with used cam and rebuilt lifters---pressure to burn!!!!! the bits of metal from cam and lifters stuck the relief valve--!!!!!!!!!!!! lasted till trade off---7 months ago--said it still ran great----"
This was for an IDI but could happen to a power stroke.
**** And I maybe wrong about the a valve in the oil filter housing****
I'll check on it ...

One more thing... I read a shop had rebuilt a motor and used excesive amounts of RTV sealer on the pan. Ended up blocking the pump pickup screen. The oil pressure would go down as the rpm's went up. So there is another place to look, the pickup screen.

such a fountain of knowlege, this makes me feel better that there are so many other possibilities because i am starting to worry about having to do a rebuild...
also i decided to go ahead and completely remove the motor, I plan on thoroughly cleaning my engine and have decided that since im already so far into it that i should go ahead and do some modifications also
ok, so the lpop was not the fix? i was wondering...they dont go out like that. usually hard to start first.
additionally, you had good lp oil.
gotta be cracked oil pick up tube or the seal between the front cover/pick-up tube.
others..he had changed his oil some time ago and has been fine, but, the filter should be removed for engine removal. just verify the disk and keeper are there.

Did you raise the rear end to submerge the pickup tube?
You do have some miles on the motor but...
I would not pull the motor Until I resolved that there is a good reason to do so.
Check the things you can in the truck. Often problems are a simple as a stuck releif valve. Unless you just want to rebuild it with all new parts and be done. That's alot of denaro and work. Make the appropriot tests to locate the issue.
Commmon Rob you can do this!

haha thanks jim i really appreciate the support. I did jack up the engine and it did nothing. also when i drained the oil to drop the pan, it filled up a five gallon bucket. thats how much extra oil i had put in the hpop reservoir each time it would empty. how do i check the stuck valve you mentioned?
ok the pickup tube is perfect, no cracks, front seal is fine, and the screen is clear. what now? the check valve? where is it located
Post #12 from STurbo: You may have a problem with the front cover,
You list '96 my, and I believe another member who had the same problem as you describe had found his de-airation valve had backed itself out.
If that happens it will bypass all the lube oil supply back into the pan.
I think the only way to verify is to remove the front cover, and I believe it was determined only 1996 my that had that style front cover

when i replaced the low pressure pump i took off the oil filter and turned the engine over to see if it was pumping oil..... no oil came out.... does this light anyones lightbulbs up? i need a pic of where to find the de airation valve. i took off he whole oil cooler and checked the valve above the oil filter, it seems to be working fine (not that I know what to look for anyways)
