difference in e40d

Just wondering if the E40D tranny out of a 93' f250 4x4 with a 5.8 is the same is the E40D out of my 95' F250 4x4 psd...i found a truck that was hit hard in the front end, but has a solid bed and tailgate which i need and the E40D tranny was rebuilt 2k miles ago which would also be nice in my truck...thanks alot guys

The gas engine case is a differant bolt pattern. Your case is cut a away bottom with removable shield, 5.8 is cast. You could swap internals into your case if they were upgraded to diesel strength in a top notch rebuild-your good. Most likely the 5.8 had less clutch capacity and weaker gear sets. The job would be a teardown and reassembly the same as is done in overhaul, plus gasket kit.
