Talked to a local shop about my too-full-oil problem. They suggested a simple test to tell if my oil was contaminated with fuel.
1.Use a white paper towel
2. 1 drop of oil onto towel
3. If contaminated, after a short wait, there will be the oil drop and an off-white ring around it from the separated fuel.
I tried it, and according to the test, my oil does not seem to be contaminated. But, do you think this is really realistic that there would be a noticable seperation of oil and fuel from one small drop?

Makes sense because of the two different refinings of the oil and the fuel. I'll have to keep it in mind for the future. Let us know what you come up with on your oil level problem. Ltr.

I have also heard of this from some old time diesel techs. I am not sure if anybody has told you about BLACKSTONE LABS but if I was in your shoes and wondering I would get a sample kit and send it back to them to find out one way or another.

I have been around trucks since 1974 and have 14+ years running truck repair shops for three medium to very large trucking companies and the paper test for fuel in the oil actually works. Oil analysis will catch smaller amounts of fuel than the paper test but it still does really work.

I found out that the paper towl test works better if I used a piece of paper instead. Yes the kind that we fill out for a parts order. Not the paper that comes in colors. I use plain white. I also taste the oil.

Oil has different bonding properties then fuel. The oil will push and seperate the fuel out, however oil has a stronger bond then the fuel so thats why the oil stays together and the fuel is pushed out, works the same way with a color marker, colors will seperate, if your goin to do it, use a purple marker
