Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

Hello All,

Well, Iíve had my truck for about three weeks now, and hereís my first challenge. A silly one at that! What got me yesterday is the driver side door would not un-lock with the key from the outside, and I donít have a remote. The lock would only come up half way, and no more.

The passeger side door lock has been hooped since day one, so I was essentially locked out of my truck.

So I had a tow truck driver come and un-lock the passager side door with his tool. Than I tried unlocking the driver side door with the power locks from the inside thinking the key mechanism had failed and again, the lock would only come up half way.

Long of the short is, with a key, or using power locks, I canít unlock the drivers side door. How do I get the door opened so I can fix what ever the problem is?? My other question is, w/o a remote, do you think itís worth it to get rid of the power locks and use keys only?

Oh eah, the tow truck driver tried to unlock the driver side door with his tool, and could not do it!

Any thoughts/hints/experiences???

Thanks

Re: Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

Pull the handle up on the inside. It should unlock the door. If it doesan't try pull the handle up and letting it bang down. Get rough with it.

Once it is open open the door panel and lube everything.

Re: Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

Mine does this too... I try to turn the key and it doesn't want to budge. Try jiggling the key up and down as you try to turn it. After a couple of jiggles, it will turn and unlock it.... Or unlock the passenger door and unlock it from the inside.

Re: Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

Thanks for your replys. I have the passager door unlocked, but I still can't open the driver side door from the inside (by using handle or power lock) or outside (by using key). Pulling the handle on the inside doesn't work. I may have to get a bit rough with it and/or I'm going to try jiggling the key thing. Haven't tried that yet.

Thanks again

Re: Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

OK, here is the deal. You most likely have a stuck power motor.
I would pull the seat, remove the door panel, disconnect the motor, and it'll probably work fine.

You may be able to do this s/o pulling the seat, but I doubt it, and you will probably break something.

The other option is pulling the front fender, removing the hinges, and the latch allows you to remove the pin with it latched on. There is a hole in the back of it for a torx driver to be used inside the door. This is great news if it happens on the back door of a crew cab, but not so good news for the front of a pickup.

Try the first idea first, I bet it will work. PM me if you need help further.

Re: Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

mine acts up every once in a while, cold seems to make it worse. i think i read somewhere that the lock tumblers wear out in some of the trucks? try all of the keys you have in case you do not have two matching locks. i'd put a quick spray of one of those loosen it or rust buster products in to the tumbler in case there is some corrosion in the lock assys.after a while try the keys again. is the door loose after you get the lock up half way. it might help to have someone push in on the door as you try and unlock it.if all else fails you may be able to get the trim pieces off(armrest ,etc) and loosen the panel enough to get a look into the door with a light. if you do get it open and get the panel off after lubing everything check the inside bottom of the door for some thing that may have fallen off and caused your problems. good luck , bill c.

Re: Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

Well I would get some graphite, (Not WD40 or silicone) but lock graphite and lube the lock cylinders through the key hole. It might surprise you and solve the problem.

Re: Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

Thank you all again for your help. Here is an update as to where I'm at. So none of the tricks to getting the door unlocked the easy way worked. So, I took out the interior window seal to create a gap between the window and the frame of the door (on the inside). With a flash light I figured out where I need it to go, and with a modified door hanger I managed to have the mechanism lift the door lock so the door opened. (Should have seen the smile on my face) Than I took off the door panel, lubed everything up and that's it. Than I go to shut the door and the door won't close. Than I swore for a while, had a cigarette, and after about 15 minutes figured out how to open those little claws up that are in the door jamb, so I can close the door of my truck and go to bed.

I'm pretty sure I still haven't solved the root cause of my issue. I don't think lubing will do it. It's got to be a mechanical failure of some sort, so I will start to investigate, starting with the above suggestions.

Re: Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

There have been a bunch of us, including me, complain about the door locks. I have gotten new keys cut from the coded numbers for the truck from dealer and tried graphite lubricants. Both doors are the same and it is at their whim which one will be the poop of the day. Nothing seems to help and it does seem to be affected a little bu temp. I just think we got sold some junk locks.

Fishin'

Let us know what you find. I have the same problem on the wife's truck. I took the door panel off and lubed everything up but it didn't help. Things are so tight in there I couldn't see what was wrong. I have found that you can open the door from the inside if the lock is down...once opened it will not shut unless you re-lock it by pushing the manual lock down. When unlocked the key moves freely with out the normal clunk into position, it seems as if a spring is missing from the mechanism somewhere, but has no effect locking or unlocking. When the door is locked the key will move the lock half way but can not unlock the door....just no way to see in there. I'm eager to hear what you find out. No power locks on this one by the way.

Re: Door lock stuck/Can't get in my truck

Well, I'll be working on it this weekend, so I'll keep you posted. Don't hold your breath though. I ain't no lock smith, and as someone had mentioned, it's so tight back there, it's pretty hard to figure it out. I at least need to get the other door working, so I can get in one or the other.
