Fuel Filter Light

What warrants the fuel filter light to come on? I just replaced the filter about 3 weeks ago, i have never seen this light on before other than occationally when at WOT(rarely though), bad filter, dirty fuel?

I'll be watching this thread. I have an '03 and everytime we have a large swing in outside tempatures my light comes on. So I crawl under and drain the water seperator (sometimes it takes multipal drains) and light goes out. I had this happen when buying fuel at the same station or when on the road and very busy truck stops. I work with 3 other guys with the same truck (they don't add anything to their fuel) and they have never had their light to come on. I went back to the dealer and was told to put some water displacer in and keep draining. Well I do that but I just don't understand why my truck out of the 4 at work is the only one that seems to have this problem.

Fireman is talking about the fuel filter light.......it goes on when it senses a restriction (vacuum) in the fuel filter bowl. you have new filter so likely not that----(but could be?) Can be crud on one of the pick-ups if you have dual tanks or a venting problem, or? fuel pump dying?? either way you are using it faster than suppling it. switch tanks if you have duals and see if it is the same on both...

Slides........you seem to be talking about water in fuel....different light on our OBS trucks...and just what it says water!

I have the same problem with the fuel filter light coming on, does it only when Iam using the front tank.

The research I have done seems to point to a restriction related to the front tank.

One of these days I plan on dropping the tank and having a look inside, until then I drained the front tank and only use the rear one.

I just recently started to have that same problem. The front tank at about 40 mph shows the fuel filter light and if you drive 65 at 2000 rpm's the truck will shut off in like 8 - 10 minutes. I switched tanks and put some stanadyne performance formula in it and truck runs great.

Looks like I will eventually drop the front tank and see whats going on.
