fuel tank selector valve

ok, so this electric fuel is kicking my azz. first, i fight with the downpipe trying to seperate the exhaust. this takes an hour or so. then i break the eot sensor off fighting with the steel fuel lines that snake up the drivers side front. now, i move back to the fuel tank selector valve to see what will go wrong there. didnt have to look too hard. while removing the factory hose clamp from the return line on the valve, i broke off the nipple. great. i guess the plastic was brittle, wasnt being rough with it. well, the numbers on the valve dont get me anywhere. F5TB-9F271-AA. tried google that number, nothing. powerstrokeshop.com, nothing. lmc truck, nothing. anybody out there have any insight?

That sucks, but I did the exact same thing tonight! Hoping to find one in the morning. NAPA shows them on their website - hope they have it.

well, to get me by and for the time being, i bypassed the selector valve by plumbing straight to the tank. this will be a temp thing. with diesel $4 here, i will not be filling the other tank anyway. this will also give me time to hunt one up, alst alternative will be the dealership.

the right part number is 6C3Z-9189-A, if anyone wants to add it to their list of part numbers. local dealership is asking $168. ebay has one, but, add shipping and the total cost would be about the same.

a note to anyone thinking of converting to electric fuel: when you are the point where you plumb into the selector valve, push the clip out that captures the adapter to the nipple. this way you can remove the adapter/hose from the valve so that you can fight those pita factory hose clamps in a better position, rather than up and inside the frame rail, behind the front fuel tank.

another heads up, the downpipe must come out. if you have the stock downpipe and want to install the electric fuel, you need to order the aftermarket 3" downpipe and plan on its install at the same time because the stock pipe has to be cut out.

im thinking about picking one up at a salvage yard, dont care if it works because i just need the body and use my valves' innards. if the salvage yard wants too much for a used one, then i will just bite the bullett.

Right now I still have the 1986 F250 selector in my truck. Believe it or not its exactly the same except the wire connector! I ground off the end of the selector connector body and the 97 harness plugs right in. At some point I'll install the new selector.
