Got T-bonned can i fix it.

I got tboned yesterday. Hopefully the other persons insurance co, will pay for it cause i dont have full coverage.
Anyway the pass. side got hit between the axles. The bed fender is pushed in and i had steps on the truck so when they got hit (small car pretty much only went under the truck ) it tofre up the rocker pannel. Dont know if anyof you guys have ever had to repair the rockerpannel before but do you think it can be fixed ill try to get some pix tommorrow, But it was bent up enough to rip the plastic peice off the goes on the floor where the carpet ends.

Re: Got T-bonned can i fix it.

unless it was your fault, the other guy has to pay for it. Ummm, when Big_Fig got t-boned, his ins totalled the truck out, and it wasnt even very bad looking. If the damage is close to, or more than it would cost to pay you the value of the truck, they will total it out. but you can buy it back for a low price, i would think only a few thousand on a truck like ours, then either part her out, or do whatever.

Re: Got T-bonned can i fix it.

well [censored], it cant be anywhere close to 10 grand worth of damage. But i am sure i could probly have it all fixed for under 1500, theres a body shop at my work. Just wont tell the insurance co. that my bed was alreay comming aprat at a few seems, but i was just about to weld all of that together when i got my tailgate which was just done being painted the day for i got hit, figures. But anyway im tell the insurace people i need a new bed and whatever to fix the front, maybe a new front fender, new steering box and linkage then paint my whole truck, not just half of it.

Re: Got T-bonned can i fix it.

as long as the frame is straight then your good to go. Box replacement is no big deal, but the rocker panel is tough, you can get frull replacement from Ford, big $$$, mine got nailed good but they fixed it.
Jimmie didn't have a straight panel left on his truck , after he got hit , he hit a guard rail so both sides gone, if I remember right!

Re: Got T-bonned can i fix it.

Sorry it had to happen to you!
What NIT said.
On the sheet metal anything can be fixed/replaced just a matter of how much the labor comes to. Does not take long at todays bodyshop rates.
Now at home in the garage with only a few parts and a torch, welder and compressor, fixing it will probably be cheap.
On an 83 I had I did NEW fenders, used doors cab corners rockers and paint for around 500 bucks. All my own labor. In a shop, probably would have been 4,000!
If you are going to buy it back and fix it your self or have it fixed on your own (just take the check and run), look and ask around. You may find a good body person doing work out of thier garage. I have seen and own several show trucks that were done in a shed on my brother inlaws farm!
Just stand up for yourself when the adjuster comes around.
Can you drive it at all?
Would be nice to already have a body shop quote in hand when the adjuster shows up.
Best of luck and keep us posted.

Re: Got T-bonned can i fix it.

as othere said--just consider that any adjuster that shows up at your door is out to work you over good--and go from there--and stand up--and firm--cause they will try and push you around--find someone you know in the area thats had to deal with ins co before and get their help!!!! and not necessarily a body shop--as they want your money also--

Re: Got T-bonned can i fix it.

If you have PATIENCE body work is not that hard, but don't plan on driving it for a while if you're gonna do the work. If you are like me and don't have the patience to paint but don't mind the metal work, fix it and prep it yourself and have a shop paint it only, that would save you a lot of labor. I got a quote on an Ext cab 4wd S10 I had to repaint the entire truck for 800 if I prepped it. Local owned body shop that turns out top notch paint work too. Not to bad if you ask me. If you do go that route, talk to them first though, cause they will most likely want you to use a certain primer or they won't warranty the paint job.

Re: Got T-bonned can i fix it.

Well the dealer i work at has a big body shop, and i talked to a good body guy today, he went over it, he can straighten everything but the rocker. He said there are replacement peices, but do any of you know where i can find one just to get an idea of the cost of it.
Tommorrow i am going to pull the steering box and put a new sector shaft and all the seals it in and do an allignment on it, so i will just have to worry about the body work.
I am a bit happier now because he said it wasnt as bad as i thought. Plus i know he will do it for a good price. Hopefully the insurance co. BS will come out in my favor and ill will get some extra money in my pocket.

Re: Got T-bonned can i fix it.

Just on of a bazillion sites....
Replacement Rockers
I have even made my own. Gotta watch some of the imported ones, they take a little more work to fit up.
I would think Ford OEM would have them.
