i gotta pull my truck down in neutrel to start it. it will start in park but it makes a funny sound very hard to explain like a loping or chugging sound. sounds like a race car motor with a monster cam in it. that only way i know how to explain it. i had one guy tell me it was a range sensor but i and some other guys i talked to have never heard of that. i even called ford asking price for part and they dont have such a part. can someone please help

NSS, neutral safety switch located on the side of the trans. if that is it, it may soon not start in park or N. But then you can jump the fender solonoid as it bypasses that wire by using your best screwdriver.
do your PRND21 slots line up properly when selected? you can get slop in the linkage and that can be adjusted down beside the trans too. out of adjustment on that put the NSS out of whack.

If it is slop in the PRND... I believe there is also an adjustment, or set of screws to check, in the cab under the steering wheel. If I recall correctly.

yes my PRND21 slots line up good. i thought it might have been NSS but i was gonna check here first. this site is like my own personal mechanic. i will replace it and i hope thats the fix. thanks
