Just A question for all yall.....Has anyone had a one battery feel hot to touch after you have been out driving around for awhile? My passenger battery heats up and is warm to hot to touch, I checked the water and it was fine.
assuming the connections are good and you don't mention the driver side battery boiling,
I would guess the battery is bad, probably an internally shorted cell.
The ground was loose but got it all tightened and cleaned off, it had some serious gunk and rust on it. So I know its good it ohmed checked at 0.01 and for some reason it gets hot also. But the driver battery is cool as a cucumber, so you think its a bad battery?

Yes it could be the battery, how old are your batteries, anyway I would change both.
take em both to oreillys, advance, or the like, and have em checked---they will tell you whats bad-----

Could be just the opposite. The driver side may be bad and the passenger side is doing all of the work, hence the reason it is hot and the driver side is cool.

the batteries shouldn't be doing any work when the engine is running, all the current should be provided by the alternator.
The only time the batteries should be doing any work is during the starting process. Once started the batteries actually become a load on the alternator.

However, if he has any accesories hooked to only one battery, this could cause his symptoms, especially if there was short in the system. I found this this out the hard way once.

Thanks for all the replys, but here is the deal both batteries are new and this is the second alterrnator and its putting out 14 volts, and the batteries with the truck off they are around 12 to 13. The gauges are hooked into the fuse board on the negative side. Now as far as getting them checked thats a problem because i have the truck here in Italy with me. So I need some help.....on a good note its making around 21 mpg out here, up from 15 at home.

The batteries are hooked up in parallel so that should not be the case,
unless if say the ground on the suspect battery was bad causing that battery to have a higher resistance then the other side.
or the cable between the positive posts was bad or there was some corrosion on any of the terminals, or there was an isolator in use.
Since both of the batteries are new, I would take them both back and have them exchanged. You need to put both batteries in service at the same time since they are connected in parallel, otherwise it will shorten the service life, if you use a new batt and an old one at the same time.
New batteries can be bad, have you looked at the date stamp on the batteries? are they close? Its also possible they had one sitting on the shelf for a long time vs the other.
I will check the stamp date and see how long they sat on the shelf, I did cut about an inch of corroded cable out of the negative on the battery that is getting hot. I have in the past had cable becomin loose because of the roads out here in Italy suck. So loose cables draw on batteries. Who carries our battery cables for sale?
