How can you tell

If my truck is a California truck?

Look for the fuel pulse damper. It's a black disc looking thing under the turbo.

Don't the Cali trucks have a shunt on the glow plug relay? Or is that only some years?

Emissions sticker on the passenger side valve cover should shed some light, too.

The late 96 Cali trucks had the splits, but no GPR shunt. The pulse dampener is the dead giveaway. The only real advantage would be a bit more hoesepower. After that, I consider almost everything else disadvantages (different PCM, harness etc. Cheers)
