injector replacement

So, I've finally gotten my '95 running, and need to replace an injector. Figured since I'm in there, I should replace at least the ones in that bank. How difficult is it to do injectors? Are there any tips or tricks to make it easy, or gotchas that I need to be aware of to avoid? Also, is there anything else I should check or replace as lock as I'm that far into the motor? As always, thanks for sharing the knowledge!

First of all I would buy the parts from International ,including the end rail plugs and the top plug o-rings which are th same as the ICP o-ring. Then you need a decent mini crowbar and a wood drift like a cut off shovel handle 6-8- in. long. The most important thing you have to remember is not to Hydrolock the engine. Most guys remove the glow-plugs for this but I modified one of my numerous Shop Vacs to do the deed. You have to suck all oil and fuel out of each cylinder before re-installing the injector. If you don't severe engine damage is possible. Swamps has a good how to and so does Baz'z page Along with the Dieselman. When It's all together you need good batteries to get it started again since you need to crank it a while to get air out of the HPOP system. Do a search on it and you will see many instructions on how to do it . Good Luck and be patient and very very clean . . .

if you go the "pull the glow plugs to purge the oil/ fuel" route. drive very gently out of your own nighborhood. as soon as she heats up the smoke is very very thick for a few miles.

I used a "stanley wonderbar" to "pop" the injectors loose, just the right curve to get the leverage needed, use some wood on the pry side, the other end locked right onto the injector no problem.
