Which IPR to buy??

My IPR is giving me issues I think...probably just the o-rings but I just got a SD HPOP and am thinking maybe i'll just buy a NEW IPR on ebay for good measure. My question is, should I get an IPR for a '97 7.3L or an IPR for a '99 - '03 SD 7.3L??? (Remember, SD HPOP is going in too)

Thanks,
Casey

SD IPR F81Z-9C968-AB

I have bought a couple for about $80 each from crabmstr on e-bay, a great seller. He also sells cps sensors and a few other PSD items at great prices.

Re: Which IPR to buy??

Casey, just like Dave said, go with the latermodel AB ipr. Same design, just a different stock #. Best of all it's brand new if you buy from Crabmstr.....

Re: Which IPR to buy??

Aloha Folks,
I see this seller has other items too like Dave said. Will the FORD PART #F7TZ-12K073-A, FOR THE 1997-2003 7.3 DIESEL CAM SENSOR also work in a 1996 PSD? Thanks for the info.

Re: Which IPR to buy??

The difference between the revised early (F6) and late (F7) CPS sensors is the revised early ones have tinned pins and the late ones have gold plated ones. No one has reported problems with using the late CPS in an early truck although some have used di-electric grease to prevent any possible electrolytic corrosion from dissimular metal contact (available from Radio Shack or your better auto parts stores). The original (before revision) early CPS sensors required a shim to be installed. The revised early and late model CPS sensors do not and the shim, if there is one present, should not be re-installed with a revised early or late CPS sensor.

The package is actually labeled as an "synchonizer" by Motorcraft and is the very same one sold by your friendly ford dealer for $140 net, not list .

Crabmstr, in the past, has sold the early CPS sensors even cheaper than the late F7 ones!!! As I recall, in the $45 range?

Re: Which IPR to buy??

Aloha Dave-
Thanks for the information.

I did want to ask you and the others here on the 2 following parts:
1. FORD PART #F81Z-9C968-AB FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR FOR 1999-2003 7.3 POWERSTROKE

2. INJECTOR CONTROL PRESSURE SENSOR. FORD OEM SENSOR F6TZ-9F838-A

I understand that these 2 parts will work just fine with my 1996 PSD vehicle. My question is in regard to installing them. Are they hard/difficult to locate and change out? I am hoping not to have to go the dealership as they say. Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks again.
Mahalo!

Re: Which IPR to buy??

The F6 injection control pressure sensor (ICP) works just fine in my '97 truck and I think the e-bay vendors claim it works on all PSDs including the 6.0. It is changed by using a crowsfoot wrench, 3/8" drive extension and ratchet wrench (Sears has all of this) but offhand I don't remember the size or even if it is inch or metric. Just bring the sensor to the store and see what size it is. The sensors may be a somewhat different updated style but its still Motorcraft, it fits and it works. Even the replacement sensor I got from the ford dealer was different than the one that was replaced. It is located on the intake side of the drivers side head below the valve cover about 25% of the way back.

Don't know anything about the SD fuel pressure regulator except the fuel filter cannister is of slightly different construction than the OBS one. I don't think there is any reason to change the regulator as it is integral to the fuel filter cannister and can be modified for increased fuel pressure by just adding a BB behind the fuel pressure regulator spring. This increases fuel pressure from about 50 psi to about 70 psi, a good thing. If you have a 97 California truck you don't have to do this as the factory pressure increase kit is already installed.
