IPR with and without Edgefilter?

My IPR valve crapped out on my a while back so I changed it out. Not noticing that it had an Edge Filter, I replaced it with one that did not. It ran fine so I didn't think much else about it.

Lately the engine has started stuttering and surging, between 1700 to 2000 RPM's only. All my filters and fuel delivery is clean. No leaks or anything that I can put my finger on. I am starting to think that maybe my HPOP is struggling to hold the pressure. I need to put a gauge on it and see, but if the engine starts sputtering, then isn't the gauge going to bounce around anyway?

I have a friend that is a mechanic and can put it on the computer and run all the tests. My thermostat is a 185 Degree. It doesn't allow the EOT to get up to the temp required by the computer/scanner to start the tests. He mentioned that we could put a resistor arcross the connector, but he couldn't remember what Value the Resistor needs to be. Does anyone know?

Thanks,

Joe

If your talking about upping the icp such as with the 10k mod, its a 10k ohm resistor.

the cut-off for whether the ipr should have the edge filter is the 1995 1/2 year so kinda hard to say with a '95 truck. if you check out Blue Ridge Diesel: Diesel engines, diesel generatorsm, industrial diesel engines, diesel fuel injection and click on the alliant power link on the page it will give a parts listing for ipr valves and shows a serial number break number and also shows pictures of the valve with and without the edge valve so you should be able to tell which you took off your truck originally.

I think it could be your EOT sensor when mine was bad it would hesitate and somtimes stall depending how hard you stepped on the go pedal,I also noticed it had more power and louder turbo whistle. It showed no codes at first then it came up with EOT high.My truck is an early 95

I thought my truck was fixed with the new EOT sensor i drove it today and tried to make it hesitate and it did so i looked again and i see the IPR tin nut fell off! but i did not notice more power and more turbo whistle,I hope the nut will fix the hesitating I still think the more power and turbo noise was from the EOT sensor. I will post what i find, I hate posts without an answer as to what fixed it!

If I were you I would get the IPR with the edge filter back in there. If it were the other way around (putting an IPR with an edge filter in a pump that didn't have one) i wouldn't have an issue doing that. Late in 95 they moved the edge filter internally in the pump thus eliminating the need for it on the IPR. Earlier versions, as you know, the edge filter is on the IPR....nothing else internally. So the way you have it now, you don't have any sort of edge filter at all. Is you problem related to this? maybe...maybe not. As for the test and fooling the computer I believe you need a 200 ohm resistor on the signal return wire (normally center terminal on the connector). I took my truck for a 1/2 hour drive on the highway, got it up to 88 degrees and performed the test right away, you have to be quick because the temp drops like a rocket at idle. Good Luck.

My truck is good so far so I think it is safe to say that the loud turbo noise and more power was from the EOT sensor and the hesitation and stalling was from the IPR tin nut that fell off, hope this help somebody.
