ok well i just recently changed the fluid, and i just put my new chip in with TDE1 tranny codes. now it shifts A LOT better and smoother than it did before (1st to 2nd is still kinda hard) but when i get on it from 3rd to 4th gear it cant make up its mind what it wants to do. it starts to shift into 4th then will jump back into 3rd for a split second then back to 4th. i am pretty retarded when it comes to trannys and this one is stock with close to 152k on it. i hope this makes sense to someone out there. is this thing ready to blow up or what? any input please. thanks
Dan, what was the old code and how did it act @ the 3-4 shift? What chip with who's burns? The reason I ask about the burns is most burns, say by TS, has programming to modify the shifts and sometimes it helps and other times it shows that you may be having a tranny going toward the southland, very very slowly we hope! Worn or sticky valves in the valve body maybe showing up because of the chip. Maybe someone else will chime in and make some suggestions for you. Good luck with it.
Jim, thanks for the input... the old PCM code i had was NAW4 ...and it shifted really hard and like crap. but it never "slipped" like it did before a 3-4. the sticking valves would make sense for the hard shifting but doesnt make much sense to me for the weird shifting. ive tried both 100hp and 75hp TS burns and both do the same .
BTW, would it hurt to have too much transmission fluid? i think i may have overfilled it when i did the fluid change, but its hard to tell. thanks
Too much trans fluid is almost as bad as not enough.
If the fluid level is too high the rotating parts in the trans will whip the fluid into a foam. Foam doesn't lube like oil, so you don't get much lube inside that expen$ive trans. If there is enough fluid it will blow out of the vent and make a real big mess. They also aren't smart enough to only blow out the extra, they usually end up low after venting.
so whats the best way to check the tranny fluid. should the truck be running? tranny be warmed up a bit? i guess the easiest way to drain a little would be through one of the cooler lines?
