What do you get for mileage? Don’t use the MPG indicator that is on some trucks, I hear they can be terribly inaccurate. If you get exceptional good mileage tell us how you get it. We will consider this a combined city and highway mpg poll with an empty truck.

Upshift around 1100 rpm (keep engine turning slow), accelerate slow (I am sometimes out accelerated by semis - empty, of course) and keep speed to 55-58 mph. I get where I am going and have added 17% to my fuel economy rating. This is over 8-10 fillups, 50% surface roads and 50% interstate with mileage per fillup between 600 and 725. All figured mathematically and the odometer & speedometer have been checked for accuracy at least once a year for the last 8 years I have had the truck.
I may be slow but I am saving $$$$$ and the lane dodgers on and off the throttle all the time only get there a couple minutes ahead of me.

'95 F250 ext cab long bed, PSD, 5 speed manual, two wheel drive, 3.55 gears, LUK clutch conversion, 450 lb homemade REAR BUMPER, homemade open element AIR FILTER, aluminum bed cap. With me in the cab (285#) and full of fuel weighs 6,580 lbs (steer 3420 drive 3160)
My truck in sig has a service body that I keep pretty well stocked. Mostly carpentry tools but a basic list of mechanics tools as well. I can get the 17-19 just by keeping a heavy foot out of it and keeping below 65 mph.
I have 285 75 16 tires, larger than stock. I have not recalced for the tire size difference. I figure that would make my actual mileage couple percent better than my numbers show.

I keep it at 55-58 mph and around 1450-1500 rpm's. I stay away from jack rabbit starts and coast to my stops and try to anticipate traffic patterns. I also shut the engine off if I have to wait in traffic for a while (I have a train that I get stopped by frequently) and never let it idle if I am not driving. I can get 18 to 20 mph consistently. If I took off the snow plow brackets and bug shield I could probably get even better mileage.

I put my rig in the 14-16 category. With the 4.10 gears, 2000 rpm= 58 mph. I can crowd 20 is I take it easy on the highway. Most of time, I am pulling trailers or putting in the hills looking after the cows. None of that helps but it IS a working pickup!!
I have watched my mileage pretty closely since I bought my truck in 1997, resetting the trip odometer every fill-up and using those unmanned radar posts to check my speedometer accuracy (generally right on).
I get 18mpg with my driving style (pretty tame) almost no matter what I do except getting over about 62mph. I have pulled my low-boy car hauler "loaded" (the only difference in driving style is that I use the creeper gear for starts) cross-country and still seen 18mpg when I keep it 55-62mph...and normally I drive my truck unloaded as my commuter vehicle and get the same mpg. I've even tried hard/soft tunneau covers versus not and now have a full fiberglass shell ("camper topper").
However, if I drive at 70mph I will lose 20% off my mpg immediately (I lose 100 miles off a set of tanks every time).
With the 4.10 gears, 2000 rpm= 58 mph. I can crowd 20 is I take it easy on the highway.
WOW 20 mpg with 4:10 gears just by driving nice. I have 4:10 gears and 2000 rpm has me at 64 mph. My speedo is correct. Maybe I should double check the ratio, I am just going off what the dealer told me when I bought it use 280,000 ago.

Here in central Indiana (flatlands) I get 18+mpg in the city. I have a manual tranny and I get the truck into OD as quickly as possible, the engine never sees more than 1500rpms, I'm usually into 3rd gear by the time I get through an intersection. On the highway I've been getting 21+mpg, again getting the truck into OD as soon as possible and keeping the engine below 2000rpms.
My most recent long trip saw better mileage (22+), I think the addition of the AirDog unit may have contributed to this. I've made the same trip a couple of years ago but the mileage was in the 21+, before the AirDog install.
My 97 has the 4.10 gear setup. I don't drive over 70 which is like 2100-2200rpms. Most of the time its 65 or less. I'll be lucky if I get 14mpg due to the city driving and the fat tires I have on. Just had the cps replaced. Hopefully that would increase the mpgs.

Mine is a 96 F250 extcab shortbed 4x4. My average shows 17.1 for the last couple of years but this is only 2651 miles. Lately I drive much more conservative. I believe it gets closer to 19 when driven easy, but I don't really have enough data to say for sure. Keeping it around 55mph is a definate help. Get on the intersate, run 70, and watch the fuel gauge drop.
The truck is mostly just used for pulling the enclosed car trailer, 11.8 over 3200 miles. Until lately I did not pull it easy either. I am excited to see what I am getting now that I pull with some sense.
Of course at times you have mixed towing and empty tanks, this is not included in this data.
Would love to drive it more but costs to much to just drive for no reason when you have a Focus sitting in the driveway. Commute is 80 miles a day.
Truck has a Banks 40hp chip, 3" downpipe, 5 spd manual, and stock size tires. Rear gear must be the 3.55, I thought it was a 3.73 but see that noone else has that so I must have been mistaken. I do know its not the 4.10. Good post, sounds like my truck is in the norm.
I just started tracking my MPG online. Normal driving (race everyone and going 5 over) I get almost 15 mpg. I started hypermiling my truck, and just got over 21. My next tank looks to be over 21 also. This is with a BTS E4OD and 4.10s. 55 mph max, very long coasts in neutral to stops, anticipate greens, Pulse and Glide, very slow acceleration to 55 (600 degree EGT max, no boost indication on 0-60 psi gage). Check my signature for my fuel mileage charts. Going there you will see my Metro and two Full Size Broncos.

About 3 or 4 years ago both my sun visor and the brush guard were damaged so i took them off. Afterwards I got about 1 mpg better with them gone. Then I put Michelin tires on and I got about 1 mpg better again and they rode better.

hello
1997 power stroke Regular cab, 8 ft box 3 inch down pipe, no cat, k&n air filter in a stock intake box. Bully dog selector piggybacked on the computer I got 19 to 21.5 on the highway doing 75. The fuel I use is a mix of veggieoil, desil, and crank case oil. I also add cetian boost and sulfer subitute. All fluids in the truck are synthtic
