Ok when the problem first started I was plowing my yard in 4x4 low and noticed the check engine light had come on and the engine now seemed underpowered, I took a break and then came back and the check engine light was now off and the engine power was normal again until I stepped on the accelerator pedal and the light came on again and no power again. When this started it was near the end of winter and fuel prices were up there so I just kept using the truck to just plow my yard and used my step daughter's car to get to work. Now as soon as you fire up the engine it happens right off the bat that the check engine light comes on. The plow is now off the truck and the transfer case is in 2 wheel drive and when you let up the clutch in 1st gear it stalls unless you slowly build up the rpm's by pedal to the metal and feather the clutch. I brought the truck to the local mechanic down the road to have him run his scanner on it since the check engine light was on and he followed everything his book for the scanner told him to and to no avail could he come up with any results. So someone here I hope and pray can help me get this figured out. Thanks, Klank.

If your Check Engine Light is coming on, you should have a Code stored in that Computer. I would find someone else with a Scanner that can pull all the codes, and let them run it. All scanners are not created equal. Some of the cheaper ones won't recall intermittent codes. Find someone with a Snap-On, or something similar.
Sounds like something electrical if it just started suddenly. Maybe a Cam Position Sensor going out. This is located on the front side of the engine close to the water pump. Also, could be something like the ICP Sensor, located on the front of the drivers side valve cover. It could be a dozen things! You really need a good scan to figure it out.
You sure you don't have contaminated fuel, or water in the fuel, etc?

[/ QUOTE ]Hey Jockey, My first thoughts was fuel gone bad to when this first started so I changed the filter and added a bunch of fuel additive and still no change. Next like I said since the check engine light was coming on I thought it must be a sensor or something electrical so figured I'd go buy a code scanner but I guess there not very cheap for diesels so I waited until I could get to the guy down the street but he still didn't come up with anything but also is not very well trained in diesels either so he suggests going to someone who is the only problem is I'm in the sticks and there doesn't seem to be anyone around here that knows PSD's that well thats why I went to the forums to see what we could find out. If not, Next I guess the dreaded dealership ($$$$)!!

You can easily check the harness by leeting the engine idle and unplug one at a time to see if one of them have gone bad.
[/ QUOTE ]Hey Warrior, Would this be shown by code from the check engine light being on. The other thing I'm wondering is if the harness was shot wouldn't this be consistent unlike when my problem first started it was intermittent?

I am pretty sure you get a CEL when the UVC harness goes bad (there is two conectors per bank). Mine started off intermittent for a hour drive home and then the next morning all hell broke loose. I was basically running on 4 cylinders and you think that the truck is going to fall aprt it was running so rough. You have a good point, but you can remove the each of the four plugs and look and see if the pins are slightly burnt. This would at least eliminate one variable. You can also take a voltmeter while the truck is not running and check them why you have them unplugged. There is a post on here from july of last year that showed me how to test it.
