Just got my clutch replaced at a shop in town. He said everything went good on the test drive. old clutch was a LUK upgrade and he said it looked fine when he removed it new clutch is a valair 06 ceramic-kevlar kit with a new flywheel. The problem is when in neautral and foot on clutch all is good but when i let off clutch there is a horrific grindind sound push in clutch and it goes away. When driving everything seems normal hits all gears no slipping no grinding into gears. The reason i replaced the clutch was shaking during takeoff in first and reverse. Any info is greatly appreciated
Did your setup get replaced with a single mass flywheel? If so that's the reason it's grinding, and it's normal. The dual mass flywheel absorbs some vibration and noise, but the single won't. That gives you the grinding sound at low RPMs. It won't hurt a thing, and most clutch manufacturers will include that in their literature. I've got a South Bend and it grinds pretty good at idle and lower RPMs.

the old clutch did not grind like that one and it was a single mass LUK. New one is a single mass from valair. new flywheel too. it did not grind before new clutch
It's actually unusual it didn't grind before. I've been around a ton of them of all different brands and all of them would grind loud enough that it was pretty noticeable.

i just talked to a tech at valair and he said i was normal. The tranny would not be pooched that fast like almost overnight. The old clutch might of had some play in the springs where as the new one is extremely tight. it shifts threw all the gears smoothly and the pedal feels a little lower.
just to make sure it was not the tranny i took it to a tranny shop where they removed the tranny and guaranteed it was the NEW throwout bearing and old fork are both shot. Is that normal?
i agree with you on that. the first mechanic offered me a couple of free oil changes for the truck. Hopefully i get all the damaged parts so i can take pictures of old and new for my records. Who would make the new bearing Valair, ford, or a jobber?
You shoulda had a new throwout come with the clutch. As far as the fork, I thought the superduties were notorious for that. Haven't heard too much on the OBS forks failing. But I could be wrong.
Yeah I got the same grinding at idle, goes away when I push in the clutch. Also cn hear it with the clutch in and coasting to a stop. It especially noticeable in 4th. Another odd thing is my speedo started bouncing around after I installed the Con O. Its been 15K + now and no problems. I really dont want to drop the tranny again!
Another thing, If you already had a SMFW, then the guy also ripped you off by buying the new SMFW from valaire. You coulda just got the clutch. I'm thinking you may have had the DMFW, and thats why your hearing the noise. I have the same truck as you and my original clutch lasted 320K or so.

A new one did come with it and it got installed. The mechanic showed me the old one and had half the play as the new one did. The fork was not hooched it was just really warn and they said while they were in there the extra 50 bucks would be worth it. The old set-up was a smf from LUK. The mechanic showed me the old clutch/release bearing and he is gonna keep everything for a bit just incase.... The person who sold me the kit recomended it because if i did not and something went wrong valair would not warranty it. How loud is the grinding noise? I can hear mine sitting in another car that is parked beside my idiling truck. Too loud. The tranny shop said tranny was fine and the clutch shifts threw all the gears beautifally upshifting and downshifting and only grinds when in neautral and clutch released. Should i be worried? My truck pays my bills. Every day the truck is down that is money i do not get paid.
well given you need the truck up n running id roll with it for now. start saving for a luk replacement and when you get some downtime in the future swap it out. ya never know after driving on it for a while it might calm down a bit.

Yeah I can hear mine pretty good too, you might try a heavier oil in the tranny? But I don't think it will do much. I put some fiberglass bat in the shifter boot, and some dynamat on the floor and its better now. But with the windows down you can still hear it. I think the pros of the new clutch outweigh the noise...Time to start moddin!
