No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

Ok Guys here is the deal.

This is the boy's F 250

Truck died going down the road.
Would not restart.
Checked all electronics.
Injectors pass Buzz test.
Got fuel pressure.

No oil being pumped to the HP res. If I fill the HP Res maually truck will start and run till it again runs out of oil. No oil pressure indication on the gauge in dash.

Truck is setting with the lube pump off right now, Cannot find anything wrong there. What next?

I am to the point of pulling the engine to drop the pan? God I hope not. Need Good honest ideas on where to look next. Truck has been down for almost a month with no place to work on it and cold weather is here.

Or do I load it on a trailer and drag it to a dealer and unload it on a new truck.

I am totally at my last resort here.

Re: No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

could be cracked oil pump pickup tube.
jack the back of the truck up as high as you can
and refill the res. and see if it says running.

Re: No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

the pumps are really good on these so most tiems it si the pickup that breaks off, which si attached to teh front cover and in the pan really far back , so you would have to drop teh pan to fix it, sorry. Either that or he's really low on oil.

As an after thought how often do these pick-up tubes crack or go bad? He has 210,000 miles on his and I have 340 miles short of 300,000 on mine same year.

It's either the pickup tube or the front cover is scored. Take a good look at the front cover.

Re: No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

I'm not sure on this, but its an idea, could there be some kind of by-pass valve or pressure relief valve stuck "open"?

Re: No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

was looking at the oil path and looks like there are two paths for oil to reach the HP res. one right off the pump up through the front cover with a check valve. The other is off the main gallery above the check valve.

The bad thing is there is no way to indicate engine lube oil pressure. All the gauge tells you is you have presure in the HP Res. What are the berings getting?

as an after thought; I so do not want to pull the engine out of this truck. That has just got to suck.

Re: No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

try jacking the front end up, and make sure the oil is full, or a little over full. And see if it stays running. I remember reading a TSB or something like that about this problem.

Re: No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

it was jack teh rear up to get teh oil to the front of the pan where teh pu comes from.
There are twpo oil paths , but work to pressurize teh main gallery first then teh res. nothign in there would hurt you, and injector that is stuck open would be bad, but if it runs good then that is not it. I would bet on the pu cracked or broken, was more common on 94's

Re: No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

Hey Paul

I just got back from my trip, wife said you called & I saw your post - did jacking up the rear of the truck up really high get it & keep it running & show pressure on the factory guage/switch?

You can check lube pressure in another spot off the oil filter/cooler to block casting as theres a port there with a small pipe plug in it but if your not getting any to the resivior I'm pretty sure you wont get any pressure there either.

If no pressure, I hate to say it will be engine pulling time as its pickup tube time

Re: No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

Thanks for the good news brian,

Now all I have to do is find a place other than the middle of the driveway in single digit weather and a good hoist.

Unless you know someone real cheep to do it for me

So did jacking it up high in the butt get it running?

Re: No Oil from Lube Pump Need Help

have not tried yet Lube pump is still on the bench and we have two other options.

1. There is someone wanting to buy it as is.
2. a local dealer will take it in as trade even not running.

So
