No Overdrive Light - E4OD Trans not going into Overdrive (I think)

I'm still trying to chase down the problem with my E4OD. I don't believe it's going into Overdrive. I only hear 3 gear shifts if I drive it hard.

I don't have any light on the shifter. I think it should come on when I press the OD off button but it doesn't.

My transmission sounds almost like it's skipping 2nd gear. Here's what is happening:
-1st
-shifts and really drops RPMS (like it's going straight to 3rd)
-shifts again and sounds distinctly lower in RPMs but I think it seems like the engine is really winding away at 70MPH. I would think Overdrive should be around 2500RPMs or so. It is a Van so it doesn't have a tach but I'd guess maybe 3200RPMs which I think is high for a 95 PSD E350 1 ton van.

So I wonder if it's not going into OD.

Why would the light not come on at the shifter? It seems like the sound of the engine changes slightly when I press the button but not like it shifted into a different gear. As soon as I let go of the button the tone of the engine returns to normal (VERY slight difference).

Also, If I let off of the pedal in the last gear (whatever the highest gear is while cruising at 70) the engines RPMs drop to idle. It doesn't do this in the other gears.

Not sure about the van, but my truck will shift into 4th at about 35 with light load. At this point the torque converter will lockup. At 40 of so the OD will come in again the torque converter will lockup. You don't mention your gear ratio in the rear end. I have 4:10s and at 70 I'm about 2300 rpm or so. I believe if you put it in low. and bring the rpm up while driving, it will shift into second. If you start out in 2nd it will start out in second. That's for low traction application. At about 50 mph turn off the OD. light should come on. and it should down shift. If the light is bad it should still down shift I think.
