I had a no start issue with my truck her Runs but won't start without helpI thought originally it was the fuel system at the lift pump was leaking. I put on a BDP electric fuel system and put new oring on injectors. I am using no pressure switch to turn the pump on as soon as the key is on the pump is on and building 60psi of pressure. Batteries are all fresh with a tender on them so the don't go down. New IPR and ICP from Allied have also been put in. Also a fresh oil change and filter.
When starting the truck it will crank for 30-45 seconds it only fires RIGHT before the "oil pressure" gauge in the truck moves. So shut it off repeat process it is the exact same right before the oil gauge moves it fires. It will start on its own but it takes it that 30-45 seconds which seems TOO long to fire.

Any advice?
What is the condition of your GP's and GP relay? If you have more than one glow plug out, it could be causing your problem. If the GP relay is bad it certainly could be causing your problem. How old is your starter motor? Is it spinning the engine fast enough to build up pressure? What type of oil are you using?

GP's are all about 5000 miles on them. Rotella 15-40 it has about 30 minutes run time on it. GP relay tested out fine. Starter is about 1000 miles and is a DB electric high torque.
I think the PCM won't fire the injectors until the oil pressure switch closes. The switch is located on top of the HPOP reservoir. You might try popping a gauge in there to see how long it actually takes to build pressure. Possible causes for slow pressure rise would include a worn LPOP, leak-down from the HPOP reservoir (while not running), or a cracked oil-pickup tube. (There might be other reasons as well).
Good luck,
RD

The PCM doesn't get a signal from the switch on the HPOP reservoir (it's only for the "idiot" gauge). It does look for a minimum HP oil pressure from the ICP though. Possibly the HPOP Oil reservoir is draining down and has to refill. Cheers!
I had a similar problem last spring only to find that it was my starter. I was leaking oil on my starter and it ceased up my starter. Replaced the starter and fired right up. I also diagnosed a lot of the stuff other are recommending. I am new to doing my old mechanical work though so take this with the grain of salt!!
Runs great when it starts. Everything is just as it should be good throttle response. Doesn't smoke a start up. Goes down the road like a raped ape.
I just put in new stage 1 injectors in my truck and I have the exact same issue... It's not the glow plugs... I have no white smoke on start up or anything. I have to crank my motor over for about 10 seconds for it to finally start, but once it starts it runs great! If I shut it off and then restart it right after, I have the same long start problem. Is it possible that the high pressure oil resevour is draing down that fast?? I dont see how that is possible. Before the new injectors, my truck use to start in about 2 seconds... Not sure what to check to fix this problem.
Well I drove mine for about and hour yesterday, had the long start issue. As best I can figure I had lots of air in the system. Turned the truck off let it sit for 15 minutes. Came back restarted 2 revolutions and it fired just like normal.
I'm starting to think that there might still be some air in the system. I think I need to just drive it more to try and purge any air that might be in there out... I post later to see if anything gets better.
