It would be interesting where the extra 2 quarts are going. Mine is a 96 and only holds 14 quarts per change.

I've never been able to get my 97 to read full after an oil change until I put 16 quarts in. At my last oil change I drained the High pressure oil reservoir and it took an extra 2 quarts to fill.

My 97 takes 15 to bring the it up to the full mark. I always let the pan and filter drain overnight before refilling, so that part is fully drained.

Mine takes 15. I don't even bother looking at the dipstick.

My 1997's book says 14qts. But I remember reading that Ford recomended upping that to 15qts. I've been putting 15 qts in since the truck was barely a year old. When you're talking 3.5 to 3.75 gal.s a quart one way or the other aint gonna matter much anyway. Plus if your on this site in the first place you probably upkeep your truck better than most and change your oil regularly.

what will you gain by adding a extra quart? seems 14 quarts are adequate. many trucks are running 14qts. without lube problems....M/O extra cost and waste of resource.

I read somewhere that Ford changed the dipstick and raised the full mark to prevent possible aeration problems in the oil.

15 seems to be the general advice.

cratos your signature states 263k and still going strong...so i would guess 14qts hasn't been detrimental to your motor. nor mine with 140k and running 14qts.

Yep she runs like a top I was just wondering why some where 14-16 qts my friend was changing his oil and I saw him dump 4 gallons in . ( his is 96 with a 5 speed) so I asked him why the extra 2 qts ,and he said his was always 16 qts.mine (97 with auto) takes 14qts.

Mine takes 14 one time and 15 the next. The 94-97 psd's hide oil simple as that. I'll check it one day and it's a quart low and the next it's on full. I now just put in 14 and call it good.

I'ld like to look at the dip stick after he dumped in the 16 quarts.
