OK I am stumped, (Not stumped any more)

I am putting my other 97 togather and I have no Fuel pedal anything. It takes a while to start and when it does it idles fine sometimes with a CEL and sometimes not and Never does the Pedal work. I hooked up my Auto Enginuity and set it to monitor Throttle position and IVS. When I push the Pedal the IVS goes to a 1 in Red and the TPS goes from a Red 99 to a Red 100. I take it the Red is Negative correct? I thought it was the TPS but i took one out of a 99 Parts truck and didnt make a drop of difference. Now I have, Put a complete 95 Engine with Harness in this 97 so Is there a problem with the 95 harness working in the 97? Everything else seems to work fine.

The Code it set is Fuel& Air Metering/ P0123 Throttle/Pedal position Sensor/switch A Circut High Input???? I ran the KOER test and it reved up ok. I am Stumped.

Re: OK I am stumped

RSP something seems to click in my brain that the OBS use a different pedal assembly than the newer trucks. Have you tried swapping in a known good unit like for a like hear truck. Without looking I would think the pedal communicates directly to the PCM. If a known good pedal does not fix it I would start looking for a source along the route of those wires. You might also want to see how the scan tool behaves on a a truck that is running right. I looked at that once on mine but cannot remember just how it works.

Re: OK I am stumped

Well I am thinkig about yanking the one outta my other 97 but am a litte scared to mess with it. I Dont think its the pedal since I have replaced the TPS and checked the IVS and it works just like the 99 one does. Wires in the truck all look brand new, Truck only has 100,000 miles on it and Most everything under the dash looks like it was new yesterday.

The Code it set is Fuel& Air Metering/ P0123 Throttle/Pedal position Sensor/switch A Circut High Input

[/ QUOTE ]

the cicuit high input makes me think one of two things:
1. the ivs is not closing when the throttle is depressed
2. the tps is not returning to idle or getting voltage

get a voltmeter and check the bottom wire on the tps, it should have 5 volts. then check the resistance between the other two posts ON the tps, they should change their resistance as the throttle is depressed (i dont remember exact numbers sorry). if that all checks out move to the ivs, one terminal should have 12 volts and the other one should get 12 volts once the pedal is pushed far enough to make it click.

TPS
pin # 1 resistance varies to pin 2 ( ohm meter one lead here one on pin 2)
....... 2
....... 3 5 volts

IVS
pin # 1. 12 volts with pedal depressed
.......2. 12 volts constantly

hope this helps, good luck

Re: OK I am stumped

I'm betting its the IVS, had the same problem (would idle fire but when the pedal was pushed I got a CEL and thats it). All you have to do to check it is ohm it.

Re: OK I am stumped

Guys, I'm having problems, again, with my pedal assembly cutting out, giving me a CEL, and causing the limp-home shifting. BUT, I just found an assembly out of a wrecked truck here locally for $20. You might want to call around to salvage yards and pick up a cheap one...sure beats $300 and you can't lose much.

Re: OK I am stumped

Ok I have tried 2 other pedals and the same thing, CEL, and overdrive light flashing and no go. I have no clue, I have checked everything I know of.

Re: OK I am stumped

Man, does this sound familiar. The 95 and 97 use different harnesses. I don't know how much of the 95 harness you used, but they are definitely different at the firewall plug. I think the first thing I would do is install the 97 harness, and your problems will probably go away.

Re: OK I am stumped

Yep I wish you would have posted yesterday, Thats what it was one Freakin Wire, It was one Black/white wire from the Firewall plug to the Computer, I drilled the holes out of the Plugs and installed that wire and it started working great. Now what else am I gonna run into

Re: OK I am stumped

Are you saying it is the 104 PIN connector that hooks to the PCM? Does this mean the PCM will not interchange from a 95 to a 97? I am glad that you figured it out though.

Re: OK I am stumped

The PCM connector is the same. The connector where the wiring harness passes through the firewall is different between 95 and 97. The locations of some of the wires are different.

Re: OK I am stumped

I took the wire out of the firewall Connector and the PCM connector and installed it in the proper places on the Harness Plugs. As soon as I turned the key I knew it was fixed.
Just to Verifi This harness was NOT a 95 it was from a 97 that was built in 96. The Engine harness is a 95. The truck Im working on is a Mid year 97.

Re: OK I am stumped

Tom, the connector I am talking about is the main connector that goes through the firwall. It feeds the engine and everything on the front of the truck. Ford refers to it as C202, I believe. There is a second, smaller harness that feeds the rear of the truck. The C202 is different between 95, 96, and 97.
