p1741 code - transmission - bad story

Well, last week the truck started leaking diesel down the back of the engine. Suspected the fuel pump weep hole, bud couldn't verify it, and had the weekend duty on base this past weekend, so decided to let the dealership have a go at it. Would leak a continuous drip for about 4 minutes after shutting the truck down (i presume bleeding off remaining pressure in the fuel rail?) Regardless, dropped it off at 7a.m. Monday morning....truck was dripping diesel even as I dropped it off. Here's where it gets better. Around noon.....dealership calls me and says it's got so much diesel all over the place that the tech needs to clean it up real good to find the leak. Tech cleans it up, few hours later I get a call...they report that there's no leak.

WHAT???

Leaks that disappear? Not on our trucks I say. Service rep was a nice enough guy, and seemed genuinely concerned, so I offered for them to hold onto it for the night and take it for a longer test drive in the morning. Get a call back in the afternoon....STILL NO LEAK.

I come by to pick up the truck around 5p.m., and the truck is ready to go. Pick it up, drive 100 feet up the street to the nearest interstate onramp, only to get to highway speed and realize that MY TORQUE CONVERTER WONT LOCK UP!

WHAT???

I go straight back to the service rep, 5 minutes before closing, ask him what the heck they did to my truck. Had this truck almost 10 years, and its always done 1950rpm at 70mph.....NOT 2400 at 70mph. Service rep gladly takes the truck, and says he'll give me a call in the morning.

THIS MORNING:
Get a call, transmission had a stored code in it (mind you, I never saw a blinking OD light...EVER) Service rep says the cleared the code with the computer, and was taking it for a spin to see it would come back. It did.

Service rep calls me this afternoon stating that basically, 1741 is showing up, but they believe that the PCM is not commanding the Torque Converter to lock up. The invoice they provide me states that TC won't lockup in 4th gear, and to basically WAIT for a blinking OD light so that I will know when my transmission will be toast.

In a pissed off rant, I take the truck and head back home....to you guys....the real techs.

What am I looking at here guys? Sabotage? I feel like I just got hosed big time, but haven't one single bit of proof to back up the claim or feeling, as things do happen (after all, I work on RADAR and Weapons Systems in the Navy, and the evil "GREMLINS" do exist....and do some wacky things to electronic systems at the most inopportune times. Help please guys. Single income family of 4, and I DO NOT have the cash to be throwing it around like some wanna-be big spender.

Thanks guys.

Joe
