I have a '97 powerstroke. I used to 'preoil' my 6.9 by disconnecting one of the wires clipped to the injector pump and then turn the engine over for several seconds to bring up a little oil pressure. I did this especially if the truck had set for several weeks or more. Is there a way I can do this to the 7.3?
Why? This engine needs oil pressure to work the injectors so without pressure the engine won't run.

I would be amazed that there is lubrication as this '97 PSD starts within a second or so. Watching the oil pressure gauge on the 6.9 it takes about 10 seconds or so to show pressure on the gauge. Likewise in my boat that has a 4-236 Perkins. Not being an automotive engineer what I think I know is anecdotal like 'most engine wear is in start up' 'the cylinder walls are dry at start up'.. I know that the Perkins has around 7,000 hrs on a rebuild and the last oil analysis showed it comparable to a newer engine...
