rear spring mount

has anyone ever replaced the rear spring/shackle mounts on the frame. mine are really rusty and metal is starting to sort of flake off of them i guess you would say. just wondering if it would be worth it to replace them now. thanks

Re: rear spring mount

I did mine several years ago. They are riveted on to the frame; cut off the head of the rivit with a torch, then grind off what's left and drive it out with a punch. I put grade 1/2" x 1-1/2" 8 bolts with locknuts back in. The clearance between the fuel tank and the inner frame rail makes it a bit difficult.
I do not know if the mounts are available as a separate item or not. You'll probably have to get some from a salvage yard.
New shackles from Ford were ~$55 each if I recall correctly.

Re: rear spring mount

If you scroll down this page http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/ you will see a mount for the rear shackle end and I don't know if you could flip them over so they don't give you any lift but they are probably stronger than the factory ones and the powder coat should last a while. Best bet would be to call those guys and ask for a quick answer.
