Shifter tube / plunger replacement
Here are pics from shifter tube replacement and new bushings
I knew the shifter was going to break some day but why did it brake in middle of 14 inch snow storm
I plowed with truck for 9 hours by shifting the cable with my hands after pulling cable out of bracket so I could reach from drivers seat.
Today I pulled dash apart and lowered the steering column down and rested it on the seat. Did not pull it out of truck and left steering wheel on. Once I removed the electical connections and shift pointer cable off, I was able to unbolt the column and rest on seat and could now remove the ignition switch and then remove the broken shifter tube and shaft (PLUNGER) Next I took the shifter and plunger brackets and pins off and installed on new Tube, bushings and new plunger. I lubed it up and reversed my work trying not to forget anything. When all done, the shifter is as good as new truck.
Only thing I broke in my work was the bezel snaps on the dash. It was still cold the smorning and I was not carefull enough.
