short distance driving

I was told that short distance driving can be bad for a diesel. I only work a few blocks from my house but I will still be driving long road trips too. Can anyone tell me if this could be bad for it over time?

Re: short distance driving

I have heard the same but no one has shown me proof. They its not good because the engine doesnt get worked like it should be what I'm told. Believe my truck sits in my driveway most of the time and do some short driving with it but like 1 a week or 1 every two weeks I take out on the highway and open it open it to its potential. Then once a month a take 200 mile trip each way up north and the truck gets to really open up and i havent had any concerns.

Re: short distance driving

short trips never will get up to operating temp....long term will be bad but if you get it out and run it should be ok ....short runs will probably have faster wear on engine...

Re: short distance driving

Assuming you have an early 7.3. I certainly wouldn,t worry about it. You may want to do earlier oil changes, but from my experiance I doubt you will every see any significant reduction in engine life. JMHO.
