Starter problem........HELP
I replaced starter w/a brand new (not reman) unit, After the third time of starting the engine the starter stayed running, even after the engine was turned off. Replaced it w/another unit, and the same thing is happening. I have to remove the cables from the batts. to turn it off, and even if I remove the wires from the solenoid (on pass. fender well), the starter is still running. Can someone tell me what is happening here?
Thanks,
Jim

Did you pull the smaller wire off the starter solenoid?

No, just the larger one. Is it normal for the larger wire (at the starter)to have 12 volts to it w/the key off?

Yes, the larger wire goes directly to the battery. The smaller #10 ga wire goes to the starter solenoid on the firewall.

So, are there any reasons as to why this is happening, or is it another defective starter?

If you are referring to the one on the inner fender, I had taken all the wires off of it, reattached one of the battery cables and the starter began spinning again.

Starter solenoid is stuck if you don't have 12v going to it. Did you change starter with new solenoid attached?

Are you talking about the unit on the inner fender, kind of looks like the GPR?

The new starter already had a new solenoid attached, so even w/the sloenoid taken out of the picture, the started will still spin on its own?
