Steering Wheel Useful Info
Some of you already know this but others might find the info interesting. My 97 f350 steering wheel was in bad shape and needed to be repaired in a bad way.
I first set out to get it recovered which turned into a disaster. Pre made covers sag on the wheel so much that it is loose, and I was told that in the right size black is no longer available. I was quoted $100 to recover.
So I look in the yards for a descent wheel and all of them looked as bad as mine. So Google here I come.
This is the interesting part: Just search for ford OEM parts and see how many websites come up. I went to the 1st TEN sites and they all took me to another ford website that had the search (pick year, make model part etc). All TEN sites listed a different price for the steering wheel. Most of them $200 ++ excluding the cruise pad in the middle. But one site which still took me to the same ford site for part had it listed for $170 so I bit.
After getting the wheel which is the "leather" one I called ford to have it installed. They proceed to tell me 1 hour install time and $100 cash to get it done. More than one steelership said this to me.
Here is how I did it and want to pass it on. I have never touch a steering wheel before so if I can anybody can.... Go to napa and get a 2 jaw gear puller PART # 3551 <25 , a deep well 15mm for the steering wheel nut and a deep well 11mm for the gear puller. Less than five minutes later I have a new very nice leather steering wheel with the extra money still in my pocket.
Hope this helps someone.
