Coming home from a 5 day camping trip today, with my 3Klbs camper on the bed, there was a car fire up ahead and everyone was slowing down. Being the anal-retentive good driver that I am, I started slowing down early so as to give myself plenty of stopping time. It's a good thing I gave myself lots of room, because my pump went poo-poo at that precise moment. I barely got stopped in time.
I started driving again after checking the seat cushion for stretch marks, and I had a loud clackety noise. Turns out, the shaft in the pump SEVERED in half and the pully started walking into the fan. Stupid stinkin pump. I just want to remind everyone, Put the bolts in before you put the pully back on the new pump! LOL.

I bet you learned this lesson the same way I did.
Anyway, I am glad you got stopped - planning ahead really pays, eh?

Do you have to press it on?? i already replace 2 and for the life of me I do not remember . I think I vaguely remember you have to be careful how you press it on cause it will go on backwards , but it dont work...

Me too...I changed mine some time ago, and forgot how I got the pulley on the pump? I do remember those darn bolts (once it was mentioned here) which makes me wonder...does anyone know if there has been a writeup on the "vaccum pump" install?

There is a tool to pull the pulley off the old pump and install it on the new pump. Most auto parts stores have a free rental program (you buy the tool, use it and return it for a refund. Tools are set aside for this purpose and you are not using a tool that will later be sold as new). Many will press the pulley off the old one and on the new one while you wait when you buy the pump. Just be sure the bolt that would not come out of the mounting hole on the old pump with the pulley on is back in the same hole when you put the pulley on the new pump.

Yep, I remember now. It was awhile ago so I forgot about having to press the pulley on. I know the first time I did it I pressed the pulley on backwards, so I know it doesn't work if you press it on backwards .
