Turbo makes HORRIBLE ROARING noise till fully warmed up!!!

I have only had this truck a month or so and not driving it daily. When it is cold and I start the truck the turbo roars HORRIBLY LOUD out the tail pipe if you revv it up and hold a steady speed. At first I thought it was the clutch fan kicking in!! If you drive the truck then it only does it when you hold a steady speed. Its very annoying on the highway. It does not do it while accelerating, only at a steady throttle. It quits completely when it gets fully warmed up. It is running a straight pipe that exits in front of the rear wheel. What the heck is this all about? I had the PSD van for 4-5 years and it never did anything like that. Should I be worried about it?

[/ QUOTE ]It sounds like the normal operation of the EBPV , You can unhook it , gut it ,wire it open if you wish, It is designed to speed the warm up of the motor...

Re: Turbo makes HORRIBLE ROARING noise till fully warmed up!!!

It is the exhaust backpressure valve, its there to help with warm up, sounds like its working like it should. Your van never did it because they do not have them, I think mainly due to fitment issues. You can unplug it to stop it, it can be dangerous this time of year on snow and ice. There is a two wire plug right under the compressor housing of your turbo, just unplug it and no more trouble. Won't set a light either, so no worries.

Re: Turbo makes HORRIBLE ROARING noise till fully warmed up!!!

Its normal and from what I have read the vans dont have the ebpv. Becareful on icy roads if the valve closes it can lock up the rear wheels, kinda acting like a exhaust brake. Good luck
