turns over but will not start

Been a long time since I been here, but that is good news I guess. Have had no problems until recent. I was driving my truck the other day, and it stalled on me at the end of the road. So, I fired her back up and continues where I was going. Thought maybe the CPS was going to go out on me. Been a number of years since I had replaced one. So, I bought one and replaced it, but still not firing up. I checked all fuses and they were good. Checked fuel bowl, plenty of fuel. I know it has to have 500psi on HPOP to start , but dont know how to check that. However, dipstick is showing a good reading on the oil in the motor. I was wondering if the screen in the IPR could be stopped up, or HPOP going bad(not sure how to check that), or maybe something else.

After it stalled and I fired it up, I had no problems afterwards. I went to where I was going, shut it down, then come out later and fired her up and drove home, problem free. Two days later, I went to fire her up to hook up to a trailer and that is when she would not fire. So I am thinking it has to be something simple. I dont drive this truck all the time no more, but I do drive a few times a week, just to putt around in and run errands, or maybe go do a small job. Am not hard on the truck at all. She is kind of retired from working, so i take it easy on her, unless I need her.

Any ideas what it could possibly be?

What is the tell tale of smoke out the exhaust when trying to crank? I have never really looked in the mirror for this sign. What does it mean, or lead to?

I have changed the GPR, CPS. Oil pressure seems to be fine. I have disconnected fuel heating element , still doesnt cranked(ruled that out). Fuses are good. Checking ICP next and IPR(waiting on a fellow to get here). Glow plugs were replaced about 45,000 miles ago (approximately).

Would the fuel pressure regulator screen,if stopped up, stop it from firing up? It turns over, just no fire. I could see maybe making it run rough, but completely shutting off fuel supply to the injectors( after just driving it 2 days earlier and it ran and idled smooth)?

Check the tinnerman nut on the IPR solenoid. If it has backed off it could give your symptoms.
Checking for smoke out the tailpipe helps diagnosis. Smoke means the injectors are putting fuel in the cylinders and you look for a gp system issue.
No, a plugged regulator screen would not give your symptoms. Doesn't hurt to clean it occasionally though.

yes, wait to start light comes on. Check engine light will flash when you first turn key on, but thats it. Like most other lights, it goes out right quick. The WTS light comes on, ohhhhh, 5-8 seconds I guess , then goes off.

fellow never showed up today, so I got nothing tested. I will smell in the valve cover tomorrow morning. It has to be somethign simple. Drove fine when I shut it off.
