I thought a had a glow-plug relay problem, so I went over to full manual glow plug control with a momentary toggle switch. It pulls 150Amps so I know its working. But apparently that's not the problem. Its still tough to start
Now I thought my wait-to start light would be gone after that. Its not. It still does the same thing it always did independently of my new manual control. The weird thing is that while I'm cranking - sometimes the wait-to-start light comes back on kind of pitifully - and at the moment it will fire up. If the light doesn't come on, it just keeps on cranking.
I also don't hear any injector clicking while cranking.
Ideas?
(BTW: its my 97 E-series - but I figured this is more engine specific than van)

hmmm...kind of sounds like your PCM is doing something funny...Looks like your 95 is a 5 speed but the PCM should at least start the motor in the van I would think...what about switching PCM from truck to van and see if it starts?
I also don't hear any injector clicking while cranking.
This is likely the clue to your problem. If you don't hear the injectors clicking while the engine is cranking that tells me you may have an ICP concern. This could be an oil pressure build-up problem, ICP sensor, IPR valve... but your description of the wait to start light sounds odd.

If you have no injector clicking, then check the level of the HPOP first. The oil is what fires the injectors. To check the level, there is a pipe plug on top of it, just remove it and look in there. It should be within an inch of the top. That is where I would start. The dim wts is kinda weird though... Hope you figure it out and post the results so future ppl with same problem will find the answer.

I'm figuring that as soon as the injectors start up, the engine starts. It does make sense that the IDM could be looking for enough oil pressure.
For now, I can at least run my glowplugs before I even turn on the ignition. Then after I turn the key, I can start it during the few seconds the "wait to start" light is on.
I would be happy to wire in a bypass for the IDM so it ignores whatever its looking for.
