On my 94 F-350 PSD I have the 5 spd. ZF tranny. I had problems getting it into reverse. Some times it would feel like it was in & when I let the clutch out it would grind. I got used to it though. I have only had the truck a little over a month now. I bought it as a project. I was goona let it go the way it was now, but I got a bright idea to put a snowplow on it. So yesterday I took the tranny out & tore it aprt. I have a book & followed the instructions. I can't seem to see anything wrong with it. Can anyone tell me what to look for. I thought it was the synchros but they look Ok.
Also, what does a dual mass flywheel look like. I unbolted the clutch to see what it looked like & it looks like some recently replaced the clutch & flywheel. Thanks
The dual mass flywheel will look close to the same as a solid one from the front. Feel/look behind it, there are springs that cushion the two plates..it is pretty obvious if they are there or not.

Your shifting issue is likely from worn nylon bushings in the pedal assembly area.
I already checked the bushing & it is good. It is definitely internal. I packed it up in a box last night & it is going to the local transmission shop today. They said it is a common thing with the ZF tranny & 90% of the time it is the 5th-reverse synchronizing cluster. They are gonna take a look at it to make sure on this one & put it back together for me.
My ZF has been doing that for 4 years and I plow snow with it. I'm so tired of it but from what I understand you might just as well overhaul the whole thing if your going to fix the synchro's. Let me know what you find out. RB

Someone must have changed my flywheel. I took a look at it today & there are no springs.

The transmission shop called me on Fri. The 5th-Reverse synchros were bad. Also the reverse gear was bad from grinding it so much. They should have it together for me tomorrow. Its gonna cost around $625.

Thats about 1/2 what my shop wants. RB
