ZF5 PTO

im going to replace my zf5 s47 with a 42 because I can't find a 47. I have a 96 f super duty. People are telling me that the pto will match up , but one shop that rebuilds the transmissions said that it won't and I will need a different pto . Anyone know . Thanks

Also the one guy said he got his transmission from a 2000 7.3 . Will that fit in a 96

I believe that most PTOs have standardized mountings, but the input gear may change, so I can't say for sure that yours will swap over. You should be able to check it out on a PTO manufacturer's site. Here's Chelsea's applications page:Welcome

A manual tranny from a 2000 7.3L would be a ZF-S6-650 (6 speed rated for 650 ft-lb of torque). It will bolt to the back of your earlier 7.3L (may need a specific spacer plate), but you may have issues with the shift tower location and/or clearance to the cab floor. It's significantly larger than the ZF5.

Iirc, 42 vs 47 have different specs for pto.
You may have to swap the drive gear in your pto.
