1994 Performance Upgrades

A friend of mine has a 1994 F350 4x4 with a 3.73 rear end and is looking to improve performance. He has a K&N filter and is planning on installing a 4" exhaust. What kind of chip and other upgrades would you guys suggest. Thanks, Ed B

Re: 1994 Performance Upgrades

I use a western diesel chip and its great. Also getting rid of the cat. Depending on what he uses the truck for transmission cooler. Also if he wants to monitor his trucks preformance get a exhaust temp gauge, boost gauge and tranny temp gauge.

Re: 1994 Performance Upgrades

Check out This thread going on right now. There are alot of different options. As for exhaust, I went with Dale Isley at Tymar Performance, he does alot of different chips as well as guages, etc. The best is a straight pipe, but if he is going to use a cat/muffler at least get rid of the stocker downpipe and get a turbo back exhaust.

Re: 1994 Performance Upgrades

The best is not a straight pipe.

The best exhaust is what your prefer whether with a muffler or not. The most important upgrade is a new downpipe then an exhaust system.

Ok, so to make it the easiest to get the exhaust from the turbo to the exhaust tip would be a straight pipe, thats what I meant, go easy on me

Re: 1994 Performance Upgrades

If it is a 94 PSD, it will have a ZF 5-speed manual. You can put a cooler/pump setup on one, but it is not an inexpensive upgrade. Cheers!

Did he regear it? 3.55 or 4.10 unless its been changed, 3.73 came with the SD trucks.

Like said the downpipe should be trump over anything else, even he plans to keep it stock.

Next should be some other form of air intake. The stock box is known for its dirt sucking abilities. I made my own with a K and N, I would not recommend it, Call Dale at Tymar and get the good setup, cotton filters don't work well with our massive air needs, paper filters better and it is a sharp setup. Besides that I really didn't save enough money to make my homespun worth the money saved.
