Re: 1997 7.3L Power Stroke Power Upgrade?

Question of why I am keeping the catalytic converter?

Here is my lawful answer...
Isn't it the law to have one on your vehicle? If you don't how do you get away with it? Is there a fine for not having one?

Would love to get rid of it! I live in Maryland.

Any thoughts?

Re: 1997 7.3L Power Stroke Power Upgrade?

Is the tru-cool 4590 basically bolt on? What did you have to do to install it in place of the factory cooler?

Re: 1997 7.3L Power Stroke Power Upgrade?

I removed the stock cooler located in front of the radiator and used the supplied hardware to install the Tru Cool in the existing holes in the radiator/grill support. Don't forget to top off the transmission fluid as the Tru Cool holds more fluid than the stock cooler.

Re: 1997 7.3L Power Stroke Power Upgrade?

What about a bypass valve? The 4R100's have them stock... but not E4OD from what I can gather....Do we need a bypass valve for temps to be more stable? The 4739 max from Tru-cool has one available built in for $140 from the dieselsite but I don't want to spend the money if I don't have to..

Here is the Law for the State of Maryland:

Good Afternoon,

You are required to have all original emissions equipment on any
vehicle. Diesel vehicles are exempt from VEIP testing.

Thank you,

It's not only a Maryland law that all emissions equipment be in place, it's Federal. But it's up to the states to enforce it, and a lot of them don't.

I've made all my updgrades, increased flow, transmission cooler, power chip, guages and now I have a torque convertor code trip when I am pulling my 30' camper. When I am not pulling then the transmission shifts kind of hard. What are my choices out there? Earlier it was stated, "Invest heavily in good torque converter - it'll save you later. Also add shift kit for stronger shifts which reduce temp's." Any advice in this area? Any links? Thanks Tom
