4" Exhaust really woth it???

Hey guys, I am trying to figure out how to post a Bio, but in the mean time, I have a 97 ex cab, longbed with a Green filter, 3" downpipe, gutted cat and Edge EZ on her now. I am curious if a cat back four inch exhaust is really worth the money or if the stock straight through muffler and 3.5 pipe will do okay with these mods. Thanks for the ifo gang, it is good to not have to experiment and flush my money on stuff.

If you have $$$ burning a hole in your pocket go with the 4", but you should be fine without it.

Re: 4" Exhaust really woth it???

John Deere tried to run a N/A 404 cid in-line 6-cyl. tractor engine thru a 1-3/4" exhaust pipe (side console 4020 diesel). Tractor was rated 95 HP @ 2100 rpm....and today they're still around 35+ yrs later. Your PSD has four times the exh. outlet area with the 3-1/2" system so You should Be O-K up to 350-400 HP.

Re: 4" Exhaust really woth it???

Don't get a 4inch dp get a 3.5 and you will be fine. The 4 inch give you problems trying to install it and you lose a little bit of power when you make it too big without enough upgrades. You can see what I had on my 7.3L it was pretty quick and the 3.5dp and 4inch exhuat was plenty for that truck.

Re: 4" Exhaust really woth it???

When I put mine on my truck I noticed a big difference in performance. I think it would be well worth the money. Every bit helps.

Re: 4" Exhaust really woth it???

I agree, even if it doesn't make a big difference in performance, the sound is well worth it. I love the added turbo whistle.

Re: 4" Exhaust really woth it???

Sure its worth it, I got my complete 4" exhaust off ebay for $299 and it came with a 3" down pipe which I already had so I turned right around and sold the down pipe back on ebay and got $108 for it. Talk about cheap the whole system ended up costing me less than $200. It sure breaths nice and the sound can't be beat! Whatch ebay for good exhaust deals they can be had.
