400hp?

alright so i have a goal of 400 hp for my truck, i already have a new exhaust for it on there including a new downpipe. my question is, is it possible and what company would be able to help best? i plan on doing it all myself my biggest fear is doing the gauges like for the egt.

400HP can be a tough go on that 97, not impossible, just tough!
Some tips would be obviously air improvements, especially the downpipe you mentioned, which you already have. Getting the fuel into the motor is the challenging part and despite what the ANY chip is rated for you will only ever see 70-80HP out of them because you are limited to the flow of your injectors. Performance Injectors are pricey but are vital to getting to 400HP on that rig.

I have seen guys run the snow performance water methanol kit on that truck and get some great gains, I would suggest looking in that direction as well as an intercooler.

Hope this helps!

Here you go Beans Diesel Performance . If you are a little scared about installing some gages get ready for some real work. The gages are the easy part.

Not trying to sell ya here LOL, but if the install worries you, look at our digital X-Monitor, everything connects to a controller under the dash and you just run one wire up to the display, clean and easy!

I prefer analog myself but digital does have its advantages... memory feature

If you want to do it on straight fuel alone, you'll need a set of Stage 2 injectors. With the right mods, they will go 400hp at the rear wheels. The other mods you would need are an air intake, tuner with custom tunes (to take advantage of the big injectors), and an after market turbo to burn all the extra fuel. Mods you might need are a 17* High Pressure Oil Pump and a Fuel System. Mods like Propane and water methanol will get you there quicker, but they're temporary power. My truck with the mods listed below is probably somewhere between 350-375 at the rear wheels. I still have the stock turbo, fuel system, and 15* pump (although my pump holds pressure fine).

you can build a 400hp truck with some bolt ons....

gauges is the simplest part....if your already scared, time to do some research, all the other stuff is already documented and folks here will help
with all the rest...you can do it yourself, but you best be informed....

intake
exhaust
injectors
new chip
superduty hpop (or your flavor of some kind of oil system)
think about a fuel system
think about a new turbo
think about adding an intercooler, cuz there is no way you drive a 400hp truck without one

suprised no one has mentioned that you WILL NEED tranny upgrades...
some guys have gotten by with just a TC and valve body upgrades, but I dont think it will last being a daily driver without some internal tranny work as well, you didnt say if it was a auto or manual, either way, you'll need to address the transmission/clutch

there are other loose ends, but after you get started you can address them..

well my tranny was rebuilt with a new tc and shift kit from hallace performance, mike hallace a diesel tech for ford also was in the diesel power challenge 2008, everyone he has working for him are ford diesel techs. thing is charging me 550 for the 3 a pillar gauges is a little high, i have no problem doing the gauges myself just the hole drilling part for the egt probe has got be worried.

now question is tony wildman or dp tuner?

The tranny is still going to be a weak point for you. With 400 hp, you'll need a major upgrade. Sun Coast Converters Diesel Transmissions, Fort Walton Beach FL or Brians Truck Shop is who most guys go through. The EGT probe isn't a big deal at all, just make sure you put it pre-turbo.

$550 installed for a painted pillar with 3 guages is a good deal.

Get a TW chip..no question. 2's as said 400hp easy. 17* pump may or may not supply ll the oil you need.Bigger turbo will be needed for longevity and increased air. D66 is a option.

Trans..long term you need a BTS.
Fuel system is a good idea.

Call Bean and talk over your goals ...he'll take good care of you.

Cary
