5" exhaust fitment 2wd dually

Greetings All,
I have been shopping around for a new exhaust for the '97 crew-cab dually in my signature. I've found several Diamond-Eye 4- and 5-inch aluminized, single pipe systems that fit within the budget (i.e. under $400).

Although I will not doing any of the serious, high-HP mods that would require the increased flow capacity of a 5-inch system, I am interested in the reportedly deeper, throatier sound they offer.

The question then is: will I have sufficient clearance over the rear axle to fit the 5-inch system? The truck is a 2wd (for the moment) with dual rear wheels and a gooseneck hitch.

Thanks in advance,
RD

Brian, I love your truck and your fab skills, but in this case I don't think there is much comparison between your truck and a 2wd.

I have a 5" TYMAR/Diamond Eye/ Motoblue system on my 96 CC which is at stock F350 height. The overaxle pipe and tailpipe don't have enough clearance and fit poorly and this truck is 4" higher than a 2wd. I wouldn't do it again on mine and darn sure not on a lower truck.

I will have to admit that it sounds mean when it comes on the turbo just right, but the rest of the time it is just choppy.

Yea, guess I have a little more room under mine. I considered running mine straight, no bends over the axle, but thought it would just look funny.

That being said, I had a chance to be beside the wife's truck with the 5" in traffic today, kinda coaxed her into getting on it ("hell no you not passing me with a 6.9") and the sound was ............well it was almost a sexual experience at about that sweet RPM.

RD,
Feel free to check out my pics. I've got a 97 SRW 2WD Crew Cab with a 5" system I got from Tymar. I have not had any issues with it rubbing. The clearance is tight, but doable. I finished it off with a 6 inch chrome tip. Installed it while laying on my back in the driveway. Hardest part was getting the old downpipe out. Other than that I love the system. Nice little turbo flutter when you pull off and a nice deep sound when you get in it.
