6.0 vs 7.3 factory IC

IS there a difference between the 6.0 and 7.3 IC? GTS is back with some more kits, but I have a 05 6.0 IC and dont want to spend the dough if the inlets are different.

TIA,
Travis

The one side is 3 1'4" while a 7.3 is 3". Ya have to get a IC boot @ ford for a 6oh powerstroke.

Re: 6.0 vs 7.3 factory IC

what about the CFM flows on both of them? anyone know?

Reason I am asking is I keep hearing that the stock 7.3/6.0 intercoolers are too small for our engines on anything larger than stage1's (for optimum performance/efficiency).

Re: 6.0 vs 7.3 factory IC

I think there big enought. I had no temp problems...empty with 2's, TW chip amd my little ATS IC running thu Hy 50 in the mountains as hard as I could. Its really strange nailing it in the hills and watching everyone behind you pull over cause of the smoke

Re: 6.0 vs 7.3 factory IC

I was talking about this just last night with some friends as well.

What about the pressure drop with the 6.0 cooler as opposed to the 7.3 ?

The same idea. Both are related. I seem to recall that the 6.0 has more flow potential but the end tanks are more restrictive versus the 7.3, so it is sorta a push.

Now I am not saying that we wont see an improvement, but with the larger injectors, I am thinking that any stock intercooler is gunna be too small to support the potential air flow that lets say 170cc of fuel would require. All this means is that the engine would not have the top end that say a HyperMax Tapercore would have, but is it really a noticable difference say between 2000 and 3000 RPM?

Once again, anyone have any hard facts on the airflow capacities of the intercoolers, or emprical data on pressure drop on any of the intercoolers?

Aside from needing the NAPA 1740 3x3 boot for the driver's side, the tubing and brackets for either intercooler should be the same, the 6.0 version just hangs down a little lower and has a slight offset on the inlet height.

The 6.0CAC has larger tanks, how can they be more restrictive??? The 6.0 core also has more flow. The only thing that could be considered restrictive is the drivers side connection is 3" versus 3.25" on the 7.3CAC. But considering the CAC tubes are also 3", I really don't see this as a restriction.

And the 6.0 cooler has some really neat internal flow dividers that direct the airflow evenly through the core.
