Not to be crass, but I'll be the first to say search, and not just here, google is your friend, this has been covered numerous times. With that said I assume you mean 4-450 RWHP, and at a minimum you'll need hybrid injectors, bigger oil (adrenaline or srp) and electric fuel. It snowballs from there, you'll smoke the stock turbo in short order, head studs would be a very good idea, and the e40d will need some TLC too. I found a pretty slick chart with injector sizes vs hp numbers, just google "Injector size as related to horsepower"

I'm with preith, spend a lot of time searching and reading on this site and others. Contact a vendor or two and see what their thoughts are. 400 can be done, not so sure about 500. Going to need injectors, HPOP, electric fuel, turbo, tranny, head studs, maybe a girdle, tuner, air intake, new DP, and a set of gauges.

Everything used to be measured in cubic inches. Now, everything is measured in cubic dollars.

450-500hp are great numbers and doable with the proper planning and supporting mods. Clearly the first thing you need to do is determine how the truck will be used meaning play only or daily driver. Then determine the longevity of the parts that will be effected the most such as the transmission/clutch, driveline, axles, axle wrap, differential, etc. The resources are certainly here on the board, and I know it did come off a bit cold shouldered earlier, but everyone here is legitimately into performance and helping others.

Not to hijack this thread, but on the same line of thought, what would it take to mod a 7.3 engine to make power and torque comparible to a new 6.7? Or can it be done reliably? Certainly it would be expensive, but would it cost as much as a 2013 truck? Has anyone entertained this idea?

Not sure, but I believe it's around 400 hp, 800 ft/lbs torque.

400/800 is roughly what the OP is after. By my rough math and a few minutes searching the vendors here, I came up with about $11,800 to make 400 horse. Of that $3,700 is tranny and $650 is converter to hang on to all of that. I found fuel for $1,400, but I'm sure that could be done cheaper. You might get it done for $10,000. I'd love to see a vendor or someone who has done it and is willing give a list of parts and a total price.

Yeah, if I could make those numbers for under $15K I think I would go for it. You would think that someone has come up with a package like that if it can be done. I would think the 7.3 block and internals would be strong enough, given it's size and known reliability.

I think at one time there might have been packages. You've got to remember that even the newest OBS is 15 years old. There have been 4 different engines since the OBS 7.3 and the aftermarket people have moved on to bigger and newer things. I'd think a couple of phone calls to the vendors here would get you one that could get you 400 horse on one invoice.

Deside what the truck is used for..then your budjet...thats what determines what you should and can build for.

Going over stage 1's the prices climb FAST...
