Re: After Market Torque Converyers

The precision industries stallion for powerstrokes is the one to get for high hp applications but according to brian at BTS the torque multiplication is hard on a stock tranny. The ATS five star is one of the newer ones on the market (same problems as above would probably apply), and I think some with closer to stock application's have used a 6.0 convertor as an upgrade (I don't know what is required for the conversion) on second thought that may only be on 99 and up 4r100 trannies
I'm sure others will chime in.

Re: After Market Torque Converyers

Yeah I was told not to put a Stallion in unless the proper up grades were done first.I'm gearing up to put modded injectors in my 96 so I have a stock transmission in pretty good shape so I thought just put a Stallion and a shift kit and I'd be good to go but several sources say without the supporting internal mods to the transmission that I may do more harm than good.So I'm interested in other recommendations too, although Dale I. has a lot of good choices too.Keep the options coming guys.Calvin

6.0 will work with an adapter. Both are good for heavy tow per Richter69.

Re: After Market Torque Converyers

How much power can the 6.0 converter hold? Some people are using them in our trucks, right?

Re: After Market Torque Converyers

It's on par with the 4r100 converter. More suited to a little more than tow safe type mods. There is a differance between a $1300 converter like suncoast/banks and a $300-$400 stock unit. I went middle of the road. A 4r100 rebuilt with triple lockup clutch and billet cover with Transgo kit and Sonnex mods for firmer clutch apply. Amazing how price varies on a converter $200-$1300.

Re: After Market Torque Converyers

ATS Torque converter is pretty sweet. You can set how you want it to shift as far as firmness through the ATS Commander or CoPilot.
